Azarenka ignores the crowd

Azarenka makes noise in Melbourne

01/18/2012 09:42:42 PM

Victoria Azarenka was pleased to overcome a mocking crowd in her Australian Open second round win on Wednesday.

The third seed demolished Australian wildcard Casey Dellacqua 6-1 6-0 in 57 minutes as she continued her impressive form.

Belarusian Azarenka's loud grunting led to mocking from the crowd, but she was happy with the way she played against the world number 126.

"I'm loud always, I guess," Azarenka said of her grunting afterwards.

"I played really well. She came out really aggressive and I just waited for my shots."

Azarenka won the Sydney International in the lead-up to the first Grand Slam of the year last week and is one of four players who could be world number one by tournament's end.

Dellacqua, who was in the top 40 in 2008, missed large parts of 2009 and 2010 because of injury, and Azarenka paid tribute to the 26-year-old's comeback.

"It was great to see Casey out there again," Azarenka said.

"I think it's just amazing what she's done."

Azarenka will meet up-and-coming German Mona Barthel in the third round.

It is time tennis officials took action to penalise noisy players such as Azarenka. She does this every time she hits the ball which is far worse than the one transgression made by Serena Williams in the US Open for which Williams was penalised. Azarenka's noise is a blight on the game.
