Australia claimed an unassailable 3-0 lead over Taiwan in their first round Davis Cup tie after Lleyton Hewitt and Chris Guccione won the doubles rubber on Saturday.
Hewitt and Guccione wrapped up the Asia/Oceania zonal tie for Australia with a deserved 7-6 (8-6) 6-4 6-2 victory over Hsin-Han Lee and Hsien-Yin Peng in Kaohsiung.
The Australian duo were heavy favourites heading into the rubber but were forced to go through a tiebreak to win the opening set.
The second set was similarly close before a break of serve in the fifth game put the Aussies in a commanding position.
Hewitt and Guccione raced away to a 4-0 lead in the third set before keeping their perfect Davis Cup doubles record intact.
Sunday's reverse rubbers are scheduled to go ahead as planned, though Australia are expected to make changes to their line-up.
Australia will most likely meet Uzbekistan in the second round in April.
Uzbekistan took a commanding 2-0 lead over China on the opening day of their tie, with the doubles rubber to follow later on Saturday.
