The reigning world champion won his first five races of the competition and boasted a 20-point lead going into the final day as he sat on the verge of the title.

Indeed, he needed only to avoid an early exit in Sunday's race to wrap up victory, which he duly did with a fourth-place finish.

Ivan Kljakovic Gaspic of Croatia topped Sunday's racing to occupy second spot in the overall standings with Scott's compatriot Edward Wright picking up bronze.

The win ensured Scott maintains his unbeaten regatta run since returning to Finn class sailing after last year's America's Cup.

In the 49er class, New Zealand pair Peter Burling and Blair Tuke had already wrapped up the gold medals after an impressive week's sailing - although the remaining podium positions remained up for grabs.

While Burling and Tuke rounded off the competition with another win, Denmark and Australia were left to battle it out for second and third.

Danish pair Jonas Warrer and Anders Thomsen finished a second clear of Australia's Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen on the day as the former two took silver, leaving the Australians in third overall.

There were further medals for Denmark in the 49erFX class, but Martine Soffiatti Grael and Kahena Kunze were forced to settle for silver.

Brazil's Martine Soffiatti Grael and Kahena Kunze finished third on Sunday and it was enough to put them top of the standings, with Italian pair Giulia Conti and Francesca Clapcich taking bronze.

The Nacra 17 class rounded off the competition, with Argentina's second-place finish securing them silver.

French pair Billy Besson and Marie Riou had already wrapped up the title prior to finishing third in the final race, with Santiago Lange and Cecilia Carranza Saroli a place further back overall.

Australia's Jason Waterhouse and Lisa Darmanin completed the podium.
