Video: Hodge's ridiculous long-range kick

Reece Hodge

Marlins sharpshooter Reece Hodge can slot them from anywhere – 40m, 50m, 60m even anywhere up to 75m with the right wind conditions.

He’s also got the video to prove it courtesy of a training video posted to Instagram of him nailing a 75m kick at Manly Oval.

Hodge is quickly earning a cult following in Marlins circles for his powerful boot, with balls often landing on the roofs of nearby buildings.

There was some scepticism about whether he landed the kick in the video below, but Hodge was quick to silence the doubters when Sportal caught up with him recently.

“Yeah it went over. It was a pretty strong wind though,” he said.

“(Manly flyhalf Tim Lane) and I always come down on Friday before the game and practise a few kicks and that day just happened to be blowing a bit of a gale, so I thought I’d have a go from that far out and luckily it went over.

“There’s always gonna be haters, but there were a few good comments as well so I’ll take that.”

Hodge, who has played age group rugby for Australia, says he’d back himself to slot a similar kick in situations too.

“I’m confident if the captain wants to give me a crack from anywhere,” he said.

Hodge could get his chance this Saturday with the minor premier Marlins hosting Randwick in the first week of the finals.
