Video: controversial try wins it at the death for the Wallabies

The Wallabies were awarded a controversial last-minute try thanks to a desperate diving effort from centre Tevita Kuridrani to claim victory 24 points to 20.

The Springboks were all over the Australians early, blowing the score out to 20-7 at one stage, however the new-look Wallabies side stood firm and took chances at vital stages of the game to storm back and claim the win.

They were however, buoyed by South Africa’s ill-discipline, with the Springboks having all but won the game heading into the final 20 minutes of play.

Australia gritted their teeth to claim a famous win, however there will be much speculation as to whether the Kuridrani tried should have been allowed after a lengthy TMO decision ruled that he had placed the ball down on the line.

Wallabies’ openside flanker Michael Hooper said the win was sure to give the Australians plenty of confidence heading into the rest of the Championships and towards the World Cup later this year.

“Not everything is going to go your way,” Hooper said after the match.

“It gives us a lot of positivity going into next week.”
