London Irish face a home quarter-final against Edinburgh after Ofisa Treviranus scored a hat-trick in a 34-6 hammering of Rovigo which secured top spot in European Challenge Cup Pool 1 on Saturday.

Flanker Treviranus scored the only try of the first half and crossed twice in the space of six second-half minutes, with James Short and Topsy Ojo also adding tries as the Premiership side ensured Cardiff Blues would have to settle for second spot.

London Irish can now look forward a last-eight encounter for the first time in six years against an Edinburgh side who progressed by beating Bordeaux-Begels on Friday.

The Blues also eased to victory at the weekend as Grenoble were consigned to a 28-3 home defeat, but London Irish's head-to-head record against the Pro12 side ensured they topped the group.

Two penalty tries, a Lloyd Williams score and Josh Navidi's try gave Mark Hammett's men victory in testing blizzard conditions in France.

The Blues now face an all-Wales clash at Newport Gwent Dragons in the last eight of the competition.

A first-half blitz set up a 30-19 Pool 3 victory for the Dragons over Stade Francais which sealed a home quarter-final.

The home side led 16-0 after only 22 minutes courtesy of an Elliot Dee try and Tom Prydie's boot, but Stade made a game of it with Krisna Inu and hooker Zurabi Zhvania going over.

T Rhys Thomas added another try for the hosts to ensure Remi Bonfils' score 11 minutes from time was in vain for a Stade side who finished third.

Newcastle Falcons face Premiership rivals Exeter Chiefs in the last eight after hammering Bucharest Wolves 52-10 in their own backyard.

The Falcons needed a bonus-point win to go through and finished the job in style, with Rob Vickers, wing Alex Tait and centreall crossing twice.

Exeter finished top of Pool 2 courtesy of a 45-3 demolition of Bayonne, while runners-up Connacht beat La Rochelle 30-20 and face an away quarter-final at Gloucester.
