The moment that ended England's RWC dream

More: Foley and Beale combine for a stunner

Australia were putting on another set-piece play when Owen Farrell smashed Matt Giteau, leaving the Toulon playmaker in agony on the ground.

Referee Romain Poite went upstairs to check the tackle and found Farrell didn't use his arms and hit Giteau without the ball.

Farrell was sin-binned and Bernard Foley kicked a penalty to give Australia a 23-13 lead.

Somehow Sam Burgess escaped punishment for a high shot on Michael Hooper during the same play.

It went from bad to worse for England with their once much vaunted scrum giving away a few more penalties as Australia eventually won 33-13.

Bernard Foley played the Test match of his life, scoring two tries and 28-points with Giteau nabbing a five-pointer just on fulltime.
