South Africa have welcomed the arrival of Francois Steyn to the touring party ahead of their next match against Wales on Sunday.

Utility back Steyn arrived from club side Racing Metro Paris in time to take part in training earlier this week and will make an instant return to the Test line-up for the match at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

The 23-year-old was absent for the Springboks' 23-21 win over Ireland in Dublin over the weekend but has been named to start outside Jean de Villiers at centre this week.

Springboks coach Peter de Villiers greeted the arrival of Steyn with much relief.

"We pulled this team together at short notice for last week's Test and they performed against Ireland, but we couldn't ignore the experience of Frans Steyn," de Villiers said.

"He has only had two field training sessions with us to date so he is still slotting himself back in, but he has brought real enthusiasm to the squad and it's a pleasure to have him back with us."

Wales, meanwhile, will be without flanker Sam Warburton for up to three weeks after he tore a calf muscle.

Fullback Lee Byrne and forward Ryan Jones are both back in training after missing Saturday's 25-16 loss to Australia.
