Steyn, Fourie recalled

Star fullback Frans Steyn will return to the Springboks starting lineup for Sunday's Tri Nations Test against Australia in Pretoria.

Steyn's last Test was against Wales on June 5 and he had been expected to play last week against New Zealand before injury ruled him out.

His inclusion is one of two changes to the starting XV from last week's 29-22 loss to the All Blacks.

Springboks coach Peter de Villiers said Steyn's kicking was a big influence on his decision to include him against Australia.

"We didn't have another kicker of the calibre of Morne Steyn in the team and we all know what Frans can bring to the table," de Villiers said.

Jaque Fourie was also included after his four-week ban for a tip-tackle in the last meeting between South Africa and Australia which ended with a comfortable 30-13 win to the Wallabies at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium.

The match will mark the 100th Test for Springbok line-out specialist Victor Matfield, although de Villiers said the 33-year-old is under a slight injury cloud despite being named in the starting line-up.

Natal Sharks' No.8 Ryan Kankowski has been rewarded for his outstanding performances in South Africa's domestic Currie Cup competition with a place on the bench.

South Africa's starting XV:

15 Francois Steyn, 14 JP Pietersen, 13 Jaque Fourie, 12 Jean de Villiers 11 Bryan Habana, 10 Morne Steyn, 9 François Hougaard, 8 Pierre Spies, 7 Juan Smith, 6 Schalk Burger, 5 Victor Matfield, 4 Flip van der Merwe, 3 Jannie du Plessis, 2 John Smit (captain), 1 Gurthro Steenkamp
