Australia captain Stephen Moore was left proud of his team after their 33-13 win over England at the Rugby World Cup.

Bernard Foley was the hero for Michael Cheika's side, finishing with 28 points – including crossing for two tries at Twickenham on Saturday.

The result sent the Wallabies to the top of Pool A while eliminating England from the tournament after the hosts' second loss in three games.

Moore was predictably delighted with Australia's performance.

"I'm just so proud of the effort. We did some good work this week. The boys played well together," he said.

"I'd like to thank England. They gave us a really tough game."

Moore added: "I've got to thank all the supporters back home. I'm very proud to be Australian."

Moore, 32, paid tribute to team-mate David Pocock as he turned his attentions to Australia's final pool-stage match – a meeting with Wales on October 10.

"The guy is a credit to himself and his family. I'm honoured to played alongside him," he said.

"We've got a huge game against Wales next week. We'll dust ourselves off and go again."
