Samoa aiming for win

Samoa will run out at Pittodrie tomorrow having faced the hostile Scottish weather this week and determined to finish their northern hemisphere tour on a high.

The Pacific islanders today endured a blizzard in their final training session before the third EMC Autumn Test with Scotland in Aberdeen, where they will seek to put the narrow losses to Ireland and England behind them with victory.

Hooker and captain Mahonri Schwalger told Press Association Sport: "We're expecting a great game from the Scottish tomorrow, but we want to finish this tour with a bang.

"We haven't had a win yet. We came close in a couple of games, but just the odd mistake let us down.

"Hopefully tomorrow will be a great game for the crowd to watch."

Much of the squad are based in Europe and Samoa will next meet up as a national team for the Pacific Nations Cup in June, giving them an added incentive to perform before going their separate ways.

Schwalger added: "We're going to throw everything into it. This is an end-of-year tour for us, so we're not saving ourselves for anything.

"We've got to go back with a big present for our people and put a smile on their faces if we win."Three Samoa-based players were named in the matchday 22 this week and some of the touring party saw snow for the first time in north-east Scotland.

Schwalger is used to inclement weather, having spent four years in Britain with the Scarlets in west Wales and Sale Sharks before moving to Taranaki in New Zealand.

Under-soil heating at Pittodrie is set to preserve the fixture, but with the Samoan capital Apia enjoying temperatures of 28 degrees Celsius the Samoan team can be forgiven for thinking of home.

"A few of the guys hadn't seen snow before and to train in the snow is pretty special for them," added Schwalger.

"At first they didn't want to come out of the changing room, but after the first 10 minutes of training they started enjoying it.

"I thought this sort of weather would put the game off but we turned up at the field and the field looked good.

"We're looking forward to it. It's a good experience for these guys, so we'll take it in hard and make sure we win tomorrow."

Alesana Tuilagi is also looking for an improved display and victory before returning to Leicester.

The winger is keen to renew acquaintances with Sean Lamont, who he faced in some midlands derbies during the Scot's time at Northampton.

Tuilagi told Press Association Sport: "We played some really good rugby in the last few weeks and it's been really sad not to get the result we wanted.

"This week it's going to be tough and we come here looking for a win.

"We know our level is up there with them, so it's going to be a really, really good win if we win tomorrow."
