Wales hoping to end Wallabies hoodoo

Jamie Roberts hopes the Rugby World Cup Pool A showdown against Australia on Sunday morning (AEST) will see Wales finally end their Wallabies hoodoo.

Wales have not beaten Australia since recording a 21-18 victory at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium in 2008, losing the last 10 meetings with the Southern Hemisphere side.

Twickenham will provide the venue for the contest - that will decide who progresses as pool winners - and, although it has not always been a happy hunting ground for Wales, they produced a stunning 25-22 win against England in their second pool encounter at the stadium.

And Roberts is seeking to claim another notable scalp in London to break Australia's recent dominance over them.

"Looking back over the last seven years it's the same old story," the Harlequins centre said.

"Over the last 10 minutes, they have killed us on many occasions. I hope that what is on the line on Saturday will bring out the best in us."

Roberts singled out Toulon veteran Matt Giteau, back in the Wallabies fold after a relaxation of the rules governing the selection of Australian players based overseas, as a key threat.

"Matt as a second playmaker is one of the best in Europe, if not the world," Roberts told reporters.

"He is a special player and I'm sure he is delighted at the chance to play for Australia again. We have to do a job on him.

"We have to put him under pressure and stop their speed of ball, which is difficult to defend against, as England found out."

While both teams are guaranteed to progress from the pool, there is still plenty at stake in the match on Saturday, with a likely quarter-final against South Africa the fate of the losing side.
