Following Roger Lewis' departure as Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) chief executive, Wales head coach Warren Gatland revealed the decision may have a bearing on his future.

Lewis, who appointed Gatland in 2007, stepped down on Tuesday after nine years in the role, in which Wales won two Grand Slams and three Six Nations titles.

"I think he's going to leave Welsh rugby in a healthy state," Gatland told a news conference following the team announcement ahead of Saturday's clash with France in Paris.

"The challenge is for someone new to come in and make a mark. It will probably impact on my long-term future.

"There's no doubt we have the best facilities in the world and when we've gone to him for things he’s been outstanding."

Gatland agreed a new deal in 2013, which will keep him under contract with the WRU until 2019.
