The lightning quick and skilful outside back is looking to earn a place in the starting team for the Waratahs, and to do that he needs to pick up as much as he can over the next few months of training.

"Obviously his first week was very different for him compared to what he is used to," New Tahs coach Daryl Gibson told AAP.

"But certainly the last two days Reece is really showing his colours. He is out front and leading most things in terms of the fitness and he is really starting to understand the differences and the nuances."

Gibson said Robinson had plenty of other code-hoppers willing to lend him support over the coming months, including Israel Folau, who's made the fullback jersey his own at the club.

"It is extremely difficult for a league player to transition," Gibson said.

"But we have a reasonable amount of experience with the league players we have been able to transition successfully and we have learnt from that.

"We are taking it very slowly with him, teaching him the game from the very basics and then we will load that up."
