Burgess, who played 95 games for the Rabbitohs between 2010-2014, defected to Rugby Union in the UK after claiming the NRL premiership with South Sydney last year.
Now playing for Bath Rugby in England, Burgess made his Test debut for England earlier in the month, with the BBC reporting that he will be included in the 31-man squad when it is announced on Thursday.
Burgess is expected to be named in his preferred position at centre, despite plenty of opposition to his selection from former World Cup players and coaches.
The English squad will be announced at approximately 10.45pm (AEST) on Thursday.
