Bernard Foley believes the never-say-die mentality Michael Cheika has restored to the Australia side will be pivotal going into the Rugby World Cup.

Chieka took over last October following Ewen McKenzie's resignation, but made a poor start as the Wallabies lost three of their four Test matches on an end-of-year tour of the northern hemisphere.

Results have since improved for Australia, who won the Rugby Championship earlier this month by beating World Cup holders New Zealand.

Having played under Cheika at Super Rugby side Waratahs, Foley is very familiar with the Wallabies boss and is confident he has instilled the right mindset in the team ahead of the World Cup.

Foley told Omnisport: "I have that familiarity with Cheik and it's been very beneficial for me playing with under the Waratahs and now he's the national coach.

"It's great to have him in such close proximity and I can chat with him, rebound ideas and just even get progress reports a lot more consistently week in, week out about where we're going to go, what we're going to improve on as a player.

"I know he wants the players to perform, I can take that and build on it in the Wallaby environment.

"The way Aussies approach everything is we never give up and we'll die trying and I think Cheik is really bringing that back to the Wallaby jersey and to this Wallaby group.

"We're going to go out there and leave everything on the field and not come off with any regrets. Coming into these tough matches, especially the ones over in Twickenham, that's a great approach to be going into those games with.

"We go there (the World Cup) with a lot of anticipation and a lot of expectations on ourselves. It's an exciting time for us, as a Wallaby player it's those matches that you really look forward to and it's something you'll never forget."
