Bath stun Toulouse to stay in contention

Bath - Cropped

A devastating attacking showing from Bath earned them a stunning bonus-point win in a 35-18 victory at Toulouse in the European Champions Cup.

The Premiership side ran in four tries, while fly-half George Ford kicked 15 points as they took away the maximum five points from the Stade Ernest Wallon.

Matt Banahan, Chris Cook and Jonathan Joseph all crossed within the opening half an hour, before a superb fourth try eight minutes from time sealed the bonus point.

Joseph made the score, embarking on a scintillating run from deep before flicking inside to Ross Batty, who in turn fed Francois Louw for a simple finish.

The result moves Bath up to second in Pool Four on 15 points, one behind their beaten opponents.

The other game in that group saw Glasgow Warriors defeat Montpellier 21-10.

DTH van der Merwe scored all three of Glasgow's tries in a comfortable victory, but the home side may rue not being able to find a fourth and a bonus point, as they slipped to third.

In Pool Five, Racing Metro and Northampton Saints will meet at Franklin's Gardens next week in a winner-takes-all contest to decide who will top the group.

Both sides are tied on 19 points after Racing Metro ran in nine tries in a 53-7 rout of Treviso, who remain the only side without a point in this year's competition.

The Saints meanwhile, triumphed 20-9 at Ospreys but could not find the bonus point they required to maintain their slender lead at the summit.

Racing Metro hooker Dimitri Szarzewski was a surprise scorer of a hat-trick of tries, while there were braces for Jose Imhoff and Benjamin Lapeyre.

For Northampton, Calum Clark and George North both crossed as the Premiership outfit came away from Wales with four points to set up a mouthwatering encounter next weekend.
