Another de Villiers review

Under-fire Springboks coach Peter de Villiers will have his position reviewed on September 28 by the South African Rugby Union (SARU).

Criticism of de Villiers has been rife after a failed Tri Nations campaign, which saw the Springboks finish bottom of the table, a year after claiming the trophy.

De Villiers has had more problems than just his side flopping in the Tri-Nations, also having to face a SANZAR (South Africa, New Zealand and Australia Rugby) disciplinary hearing for questioning the honesty of referees.

The outspoken coach also said he supported accused murderer and Super 14 Bulls prop Bees Roux '100 percent', which raised eyebrows in the South African Rugby community.

Vice-president of SARU James Stoffberg said his organisation will not tolerate losing when it came to the national side.

"For anyone that has anything to do with South African rugby, high performance is very important," he said.

"Sport is about winning. The Springboks are now third on the world rankings. We are very serious about putting in place a support base to enable South Africa to win next year's World Cup tournament."

Stoffberg, however, was quick to point out that the faults of the team did not just come down to de Villiers, hence the review.

"It's easier to become champions than to stay champions. South Africa did not have a good Tri Nations."

"If you aren't evaluated, you won't be able to identify where you are going wrong. Rugby is a team game and you can't blame one person for a defeat," he said.
