Six players - Ashley-Cooper, Nick Cummins, Benn Robinson, Tatafu Polota-Nau, Liam Gill and Paddy Ryan – have been handed a one-match ban and will all miss this weekend's clash against Scotland at Murrayfield, except for Ryan who will sit out the final spring tour game against Wales.

Dave Dennis, Kane Douglas, Saia Fainga'a, Bernard Foley and Nick Phipps received written sanctions, while Scott Fardy, Mike Harris, Ben McCalman and Nic White were reprimanded verbally.

Their crime was deciding to hit the town in Dublin after an official team dinner on Tuesday night.

But Karen Ashley-Cooper believes her son, the most capped Wallaby on tour having played 90 Tests, didn't do enough to deserve the one-match ban.

"He's saying that he and 14 other players got home late after one o'clock, after several beers but nothing excessive," Karen told Triple M.

"These players are now being made an example of but because Adam's the most senior player they're coming down on him the hardest.

"So he's missing a game for not upholding the behavioural and cultural standards of an elite athlete representing the Wallabies.

"He's said he'll cop it and move forward but, he's really upset because they are claiming excessive and inappropriate alcohol intake by him, and alcohol was not the problem, it was the time he got home."

But ARU boss Bill Pulver believes the punishments handed down by McKenzie are 'entirely appropriate'.

"Personally I am very disappointed that action was required," Pulver said.

"Clearly we are in a rebuilding mode in the case of Australian rugby, Ewen McKenzie is our new coach and he is laying very clear standards in terms of discipline and culture that he is looking to develop inside the team.

"So I think the actions he has taken are entirely appropriate."
