Filming for Channel 9’s 60 Minutes, Fanning got back on the horse just six days after being attacked by an enormous Great White Shark during the final of the Jeffrey’s Bay Open in South Africa.

Fanning jumped back in the water at Hasting’s Point on the NSW far north coast, but was greeted by an unwanted local - albeit a small one.

“We caught one wave and we we’re just sitting there and then sort of looked and saw a tiny little fin,” a clearly shaken Fanning said.

“You wouldn’t believe it, I swear to God!

“Isn’t that funny. It was a full shark hey!”

The close encounters haven’t dampened the three-time world champion’s hopes of claiming the title in 2015 however, and says that he’ll be back in the water at the next event of the WSL Would Tour - Teahupo’o.

“It’s just one of those things, you’ve just got to get back on the horse,” Fanning said.

“Things happen all the time and it’s the way you react to them that defines what they actually mean.

“I’ll be fine, I’ll be going to Chopes (Teahupo’o). I’m sure I’ll be fine.”

Fanning currently sits second in the world, with a strong finish at Teahupo'o sure to bolster his chances of claiming a fourth world title.
