The musician gained worldwide attention last February after competing for Thailand as Vanessa Vanakorn in the giant slalom at the Sochi Games where she finished 67th.

But questions were raised by the Slovenian Ski Association in July over the legitimacy of the qualification event last January that saw Mae earn her place in Thailand’s team.

And, following a hearing last month, the FIS has determined that the results of the competition were manipulated to benefit Vanessa Mae.

At any rate, her musical career will probably substantially eclipse her skiing one. Having started playing violin at the age of three, she became the youngest soloist to record both the Beethoven and Tchaikovsky violin concertos, according to Guinness World Records when she was just 13 yeas old.

Having moved away from classical music to an almost classical-techno fusion, Mae became one of the UK’s most successful musicians although UK newspaper The Independent reported in 1996 father publicly criticised and disowned her, saying "she looks like a soft-porn showgirl" after pictures of his daughter in skimpy clothing was used to promote her albums.
