One day after allegations surfaced that USADA may have bent the rules for Mayweather Jr by allowing him to have an IV infusion, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency came out swinging.

Did Floyd Mayweather use PEDs before Pacquiao fight?

USADA is adamant both the organisation and boxer were above board with their handling of an IV before the highly-anticipated bout, which was won by the American.

"It is simply absurd to suggest that we would ever compromise our integrity for any sport or athlete," USADA said in a statement.

According to the release, Mayweather’s use of the IV, which contained saline and vitamin C, as well as multivitamins, was not prohibited under Nevada State Athletic Commission rules.

Mayweather applied for and was granted a therapeutic use exemption by the organization, even though he didn’t need to, as the IV use was not prohibited by the commission.

However, USADA acknowledged the exemption was granted after the bout.

The organisation lashed out at what it called unfounded, and false allegations in the media.

"It is unfortunate and extremely disappointing to have to address articles riddled with significant inaccuracies and misrepresentations based on unsubstantiated rumors as well as anonymous or self-interested sources that have recklessly called our integrity into question," the statement read.
