Fabian Cancellara, the current holder of the Maillot Jaune (Yellow jersey) was involved in the crash and although he was not one of the riders taken to the hospital, the television broadcasters did insinuate that he has a concussion.

Four riders — Tom Dunoulin, Simon Gerrans, William Bonnet and Dmitry Kozonchuck — have pulled out of the race due to injuries sustained in the crash, according to Sky Sports.

Laurens ten Dam reportedly suffered a dislocated shoulder in the crash, but remained in the race.

There was no footage of the second crash because the cameras were still focused on the wreckage caused by the first crash.

Spain's Joaquim "Purito" Rodriguez survived the wreckage and won Stage 3 in a time of 3:26:54.
