Rousey piles on the pounds to prove a point

Ronda Rousey

In an interview with the New York Times, the undefeated women’s UFC bantamweight champion revealed she was recently criticised about her weight before filming a television commercial. Not a wise move.

“I swear to God, if anybody calls me fat one more time in my life I’m going to kill them.” Rousey growled.

Passing judgement on Rousey’s weight sounds like a death wish and while she wouldn’t elaborate on who thought they would poke the bear, her handling of the situation was intellectual rather than intimidating.

“Because somebody said something really rude to me, I came into the shoot purposely way heavier.” Rousey said.

The incident occured during a break in competition when Rousey can exceed 68kgs as opposed to her fighting weight of 61kgs.

Having come in overweight, unsurprisingly, no one took up the issue with her.

“Oh, hell no. And the campaign ended up being amazing, even though I was heavier just to make a point.” Rousey revealed.

Rousey has previously admitted to a brief struggle with bulimia and is now a staunch campaigner for female body image, and is determined to use her reputation to fight the issue.

“If I can represent that body type of women that isn’t represented so much in the media, then I’d be happy to do that.” she said.

Just whatever you do, don’t call her fat. That’s a dangerous pastime.
