Troy Tulowitzki smashed his MLB-leading seventh home run of the season on Thursday to help Colorado to a 9-4 thumping of the New York Mets.

It was the Rockies' second win over the Mets on Thursday, after pitcher Greg Reynolds led them to a 6-5 triumph in the first game of their double-header.

Colorado have made the best start in their franchise's history, and are now 10-2 to start the season after posting their sixth win in succession, moving four games clear on top of the National League West divisional standings.

The Mets, meanwhile, are headed in the other direction - dropping their fifth game on the trot for a 4-9 mark after 13 games.

Elsewhere on Thursday, the New York Yankees moved a game clear on top of the American League East standings with 6-5 win over Baltimore at Yankee Stadium.

Jorge Posada's homer in the ninth inning tied proceedings and a sacrifice fly from Nick Swisher in the 10th was enough to secure the win for the Yankees, their second in succession over the Orioles after Wednesday's 7-4 triumph.

Also in the American League, Tampa Bay outscored the Minnesota Twins 2-1 in the 10th inning to claim a 4-3 victory, Kansas City were far too good for Seattle, winning 5-1, and Detroit claimed a 3-0 win on the road over Oakland.

In the National League, St Louis clubbed their way to a 9-5 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee inflicted a fourth straight loss on struggling Pittsburgh with a 4-1 win on the road.

Philadelphia moved two games clear on top of the National League East thanks to a 4-0 win over Washington, Florida enjoyed a 6-5 win over Atlanta and an RBI single to Michael Bourn allowed Humberto Quintero to get home in Houston's 1-0 win over San Diego.
