Performances of the Weekend

Strength – Billy Slater

The Melbourne fullback was absolutely smashed by Manu Vatuvei with the try-line in sight on Monday.

Clearly hurt, he picked himself up, made a try-saving ankle-tap on a flying Shaun Johnson and had a hand in a crucial Storm four pointer later in the game.

Skill – Pat Richards

With a boring game slipping away from the Tigers, 33-year-old Richards stepped up to deliver a masterful performance.

The most impressive part of his 10-minute masterpiece was a 70th minute try assist for James Tedesco.

After flying down the touchline and edging just millimetres from the paint, Richards chipped inside as he was collared by the defence.

His kick lobbed perfectly over an Eels cover defender and into the hands of Tedesco.

Richards then backed up that performance to score and convert an eight point try as he was whacked around the chops.

What a skillful performance in game number 100.

Mental Toughness – Eugene Galekovic

With Sydney FC absolutely dominating the match against Galekovic’s Adelaide United, the Socceroos goalkeeper was outstanding, fending away the Sydney attack singlehandedly.

He played the conditions perfectly, punching away incoming crosses and denying Alex Brosque on at least three occasions in wet conditions.

Endurance - Swans

After kicking just one major in the first half, the Swans trailed Essendon by 41 points in the third term but kicked eight unanswered goals for a record-breaking 72-60 win.

It's the Swans' fifth win in a row over the Bombers who ran out of juice in the dying stages of the game.
