No rocky start for Colorado

Colorado have continued their barnstorming start to the 2011 MLB season with a 5-0 rout of the Chicago Cubs on Friday.

Pitcher Jhoulys Chacin was the key behind the win, the 23-year-old playing the first complete game of his career - striking out seven and walking two to hold the Cubs scoreless.

Chacin is holding the fort well in the absence of starter Ubaldo Jimenez, who is nursing a cracked cuticle on his thumb.

The Cubs game was the second time this season that Chacin has kept a side scoreless, after he shutout the Los Angeles Dodgers for seven innings on April 5.

The Rockies are now off to their best ever start to a Major League season, with their 11-2 record seeing them five games clear on top of the National League Central.

Elsewhere in the National League on Friday, San Diego enjoyed a 4-2 win over Houston on the road and Pittsburgh also had a win away from home, thrashing the Cincinnati Reds 6-1.

Jayson Werth scurried home after an infield hit from Adam LaRoche in the 10th innings to secure Washington a 4-3 win over Milwaukee, and Florida moved a game behind Philadelphia in the National League East with a 4-3 win over the Phillies - their third in succession.

The game between the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves was postponed because of rain.

In the American League, the New York Yankees suffered a 5-3 loss to Texas, with their starting pitcher Ivan Nova taken out of the game before the end of the fifth inning in a bid to stem the bleeding.

Tampa Bay enjoyed a 5-2 win at home over the struggling Minnesota Twins, Kansas City survived a late fight-back from Seattle to post a 6-5 win and Toronto are just percentage behind the Yankees in the American League East after their 7-6 win over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

The Baltimore Orioles lost their fifth game in succession with an 8-2 drubbing at the hands of the Cleveland Indians.
