McGregor's stunning UFC contract claim

Conor McGregor

The notoriously controversial Irishman hit back at jibes from the likes of Floyd Mayweather among others that mixed-martial arts fighters are poorly paid and therefore inferior  to other top-line athletes.

The interim UFC featherweight champion claimed that he is about to pen a nine-figure contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

The claim was made by McGregor during an appearance on The MMA Hour, where the UFC superstar detailed his potentially ground-breaking contract.

“Let’s compare contracts because the contract that I’m talking is nine figures,” McGregor said.

“Nobody in the game has talked nine figures. That’s $100 million plus.

“That’s my contract, so that’s where I’m at and I’ve done it the way I’ve done it. Either learn from it or don’t.

“When you’re bringing in $60 million revenue on a fight where the main event guy has pulled out two weeks before, you think anyone else can do that?” he said

While McGregor is still a way off Mayweather’s latest pay-packet, he’s certainly heading in the right direction.

However, he may have himself and his strong negotiating skills to thank for the pay rise.

“I came at them with fact, I came at them with numbers and I didn’t go around about. I looked them dead in the eye…

“When someone comes at you with clear facts, there’s only one thing you can do and that’s respect it.

“You got to respect a good business, if you don’t… then that’s on you. I am very confident we will come to a deal and it will be in the nine-figure mark, and rightfully so.”
