Mark Hunt to headline UFC event in Adelaide

Mark Hunt

The bout hasn’t officially been confirmed by the UFC, but sources informed Combat Press this week that the deal was all but done.

The event is expected to take place at the Adelaide Events Centre on May 10.

Hunt (10-9-1) is coming off a second round knock-out defeat to Fabricio Werdum in a hastily arranged fight in Mexico City last November.

The “Super Samoan” was a last minute replacement for champion Cain Velasquez who picked up a training injury and was forced to withdraw from the UFC 180 main event.

Hunt had just three weeks to drop up to 20kg for the fight and little time to acclimatise to the altitude of Mexico City. After winning the first round, he was stunned by a Werdum flying knee which ended his title aspirations.

Sydney based Hunt is fifth in the UFC rankings while fourth ranked Miocic (12-2) is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Junior dos Santos in December.
