More: "Green will kill Mundine" - Fenech l Why Anthony Mundine must retire

Fenech, a three time world champion, made the declaration just days after Mundine was annihilated by unheralded American Charles Hatley in Melbourne last week.

Mundine was floored three times in the second round and was beaten up for another nine rounds before his corner stopped the bout after another knockdown in the 11th.

Fenech told the Herald Sun that Green would do a similar job on Mundine if the ageing pair were to meet in the ring again.

“The sport here has already had a couple of tragic deaths here this year, it doesn’t need any more,” he said.

"It’s a bullshit fight and if there’s a boxing authority anywhere in Australia who lets it happen, we might as well ban the sport here forever.

"Everyone saw what happened to Anthony last fight - if Danny doesn’t finish him in the first round, he isn’t trying."

Green came out swinging at Fenech, saying the 'Marrickville Mauler' might be addled from a long career in boxing.

He also said that a run-in at last Sunday’s UFC event in Melbourne was to blame.

“Jeff is a very cranky man after having to relocate from the seats he was sitting in,” Green said.

“Turns out he was in mine and after I asked the little fella to find his right seats it appears he has a bee in his bonnet. Now he’s on the warpath.

“A wise man once said to me about him: ‘Jeff has always had to finish first, second or third in a race. No-one else can get a place.

“‘At a wedding he wants to be the groom, at a funeral he wants to be the corpse.’ Funny little fella, old Jeff. He’s obviously been affected by the rigours of boxing.”

A Mundine-Green rematch would reportedly net each fighter $5 million, but after Mundine’s last outing and Green’s comeback from retirement, there’s still the question of whether the public even want to see it.
