Former WWE star claims Rousey v Holm was rigged

Holly Holm Ronda Rousey

Former WWE champion Taz has claimed that the UFC may have rigged Sunday afternoon’s main event, in order for Rousey to take time away from the cage due to her busy schedule.

The former pro-wrestling champion turned podcaster revealed his theory on his own program, The Taz Show, and said that the WWE pulled the same sort of “works” all the time.

“The first thing that jumped out at me was, OK: I think the finish of the fight might have been rigged,” Taz explained.

“Let’s say I am right. UFC would not be reinventing the wheel by fixing a fight.

“This was going on for 50, 60, 70, 80 years in boxing. This is not a new thing.

“Why are some people not seeing this?”

Rousey’s camp, along with UFC boss Dana White have confirmed that the fallen star is set to have a lay-off from the sport to recover, with rumours suggesting that she will be back for UFC 200 in July of next year.

Due to the injuries sustained by Rousey, she cannot compete for six months in accordance with UFC rulings.

She is also in the process of transitioning to Hollywood, and with a hectic upcoming schedule, Taz indicated that it all makes sense… in his own mind.

“This has been done in the wrestling industry for years. A guy or girl is going to take a break or go away, or has an injury that they have to tend to, whatever the reasons are, and they’re a champion – you take the championship off them.

“You do not want your champion sitting home or making a movie… or whatever Rousey’s going to do, or just needs a personal break, which she’s earned.

“But you don’t want that person sitting home for five, six, seven months with that championship. It’s bad for business. Take the belt off her.”

It’s likely we’ll never find out if Taz is onto something – frankly, we’d rather be in the dark on this one.
