Chicago Sun Times in Bears headline blunder

Jay Cutler

He copped endless criticism on social media for the blunder, but another Sun-Times sporting slip-up, this time in relation to home-town team the Chicago Bears, shows there may be something more endemic in the editorial department.

Granted, the Bears are doing it tough at 3-6 and coming off a humiliating 55-14 loss to arch-rivals Green Bay Packers, so whoever ended up covering the game and editing the copy got a raw deal.

But surely someone should’ve picked this up before Deadspin latched onto it…

We all make mistakes, right? But a quick glance through the Sun-Times sports pages shows some scathing criticism. If you’re going to attack the team, at least get it right at your end.

One writer says the coach and general manager should’ve sacked themselves at halftime of the Packers Game.

Then there’s the guy who calls on Bears fans to boycott this weekend’s match with the Minnesota Vikings. Another pens a scathing take down piece on QB Jay Cutler.

With the Bears’ season hanging in the balance and Bulls star Derrick Rose one awkward jump-shot away from sitting out another season, Chicago sports fans are rightly more concerned with the performance of their teams than their newspapers.

This Seinfeld inspired tweet sums up the Bears’ last two games (they lost 51-23 to the Patriots before copping a hiding by the Packers) but it could just as easily apply to the Sun-Times’ editorial department too.
