The Indian was aggrieved to have lost her semi-final against Park Ji-na in Incheon and would not take her medal on the podium.

Sarita Devi apologised for her actions, but it was feared she could be facing a life ban after she was suspended by the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA).

The governing body has instead opted to ban the 29-year-old for a year, with the punishment starting on October 1 - which was the date of the medal ceremony - and also fined her 1,000 Swiss francs.

An AIBA statement said: "The AIBA Disciplinary Commission has ruled that Ms Laishram Sarita Devi is guilty of breaking the AIBA Disciplinary Code at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon in October.

"The Disciplinary Commission has ruled that Ms Devi will be suspended from any activity on the national, confederation and international levels for a period of 1 (one) year starting from the date of the 2014 Asian Games Medal Ceremony (1 October 2014).

"Ms Devi has also been ordered to pay a fine of CHF1,000, and Ms Devi's suspension will end on 1 October 2015 provided that all fines have been paid and no additional Disciplinary Commission rulings have been rendered."
