Video: Aussie makes history as Owen claims Fiji crown the Wright way

Owen Wright

Wright became just the fifth surfer to achieve the feat of two perfect 10’s in a heat, with the milestone being achieved just eight times since the inception of professional surfing.

The Culburra Beach local claimed the two 10’s in the final, however it was not the first time he had achieved the milestone in the event.

Wright posted a perfect heat score of 20 in Round 5 of the Fiji event, also against a fellow Australian Adam Melling.

It is the first time a surfer has posted two perfect heat scores in the same event, and Wright joins surfing legend Kelly Slater, and former World Champion Joel Parkinson in being the only three surfers to achieve the milestone twice.

It was Wright’s second tour victory, his last coming way back in 2011.
