MORE: Anthony Mundine's future in doubt after brutal points loss

That's one of the few scenarios open to The Man after he was floored five times during his unanimous points loss to Joshua Clottey in Newcastle on Wednesday night.

Green was keeping suspiciously quiet on Thursday, telling followers on his Twitter account that he hadn't watched the fight.

But boxing insiders believe talk of a Green-Mundine re-match may already be on the agenda of both camps as they look at one final shoot-out to bring down their curtain on their long-running feud.

The Man is 38, Green 41.

Mundine beat Green in a WBA super middle-weight title eliminator in 2006, watched by an Australian record pay per view audience and capacity crowd.

There has been constant speculation the pair would fight again but there has been nothing more than verbal sparring in the eight years since.

But with Mundine running out of options and Green in semi-retirement, talk of a re-match is is sure to grow.

The pair would likely fight at the light heavyweight division, with Green needing to shed at least 10kg and Mundine needing to put on as much to make the weight.

Both boxers would need at least six months to prepare, with October-November the favoured timeslot should the fight eventuate.

"It's still a practical and obvious big money fight," one boxing insider told Sportal.

"There would have to be compromise on both sides but it wouldn't be surprising if talks had already begun.

"The door has always been open for them to fight again and this may be it once and for all."

Green wrote an open letter to Mundine last year in which he cast doubts over the former league player's willingness to enter the ring against him again.

"You come up a bit (in weight), I come down a bit. Easy," Green said.

"You got the balls?"

We'll soon find out.
