The St Louis Blues edged the Dallas Stars 1-0 to go equal top of the NHL with the New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks.

TJ Oshie scored the game's lone goal while Jaroslav Halak made 22 saves as the Blues vaulted to the top of the standings with their sixth win in seven games.

After a stalemate in the first two periods Oshie netted with a little over eight minutes left in the third period to separate the sides.

The Phoenix Coyotes hammered the Colorado Avalanche 6-1 with Shane Doan and Boyd Gordon helping themselves to doubles.

Mike Smith made 38 saves for the Coyotes, while Chuck Kobasew scored the only goal for Colorado.

The Detroit Red Wings made it a record 15th straight win at home with a 5-0 demolition of the Buffalo Sabres.

Todd Bertuzzi, Nicklas Lidstrom, Henrik Zetterberg, Darren Helm and Johan Franzen scored for the Red Wings, who dismantled a Sabres side whose away record (no wins in past nine) is almost as poor as the Detroit's is formidable.

The Winnipeg Jets downed the Ottawa Senators 2-0 to end a three-game losing streak and become the first team to beat the Senators in regulation time in nine matches.

Chris Mason made 25 saves in the shutout performance with Jim Slater and Tobias Enstrom on the scoresheet for the winners.

David Krejci scored the winner in the fourth round of the shootout as the Boston Bruins pipped the Florida Panthers 3-2.

Pekka Rinne made 19 saves in the second period to protect the Nashville Predators' three-goal lead over the New York Islanders.

Sergei Kostitsyn, Matt Halischuk and David Legwand scored in the opening period and the Predators held out 3-1 for their eight win from their past nine matches.
