Schlecks leave Saxo Bank

Schlecks leave Saxo Bank

07/30/2010 10:59:47 AM

Tour de France runner-up Andy Schleck and his brother Frank have confirmed they will quit the Saxo Bank team to join a new Luxembourg-based outfit.

The Schleck siblings, native Luxembourgians, are reportedly planning to join former Riis employee Brian Nygaard in a new outfit in 2011.

Earlier speculation had linked Nygaard, who recently left Team Sky, with the Schleck brothers. It is believed Nygaard will come on board as team manager.

Andy confirmed the move away from Saxo Bank and owner Bjarne Riis on Friday.

"It's official, we will not be riding with Bjarne in 2011," he told cyclingnews.com.

"It's been a fantastic five years for me, I learnt a lot in that time. I'll stay friends with Bjarne but this is the end of the road for us as a team."

Andy, 25, won his third consecutive white jersey for best young rider at the 2010 Tour de France.

His older brother, 30, exited from the Tour early when he broke his collarbone in a fall during stage three.

Tour de France winner Alberto Contador will also be riding for a new team next season after announcing he was leaving Astana.
