Australian middle distance runner Jeffrey Riseley has upstaged reigning Olympic gold medalist Asbel Kiprop in the men's 1500-metre final at the Melbourne Track Classic event at Olympic Park on Thursday night.
National champion Riseley took out the race in a time of three minutes 42.70 seconds with New South Welshman Jeremy Roff (3:43.06) finishing second and New Zealand's reigning Commonwealth champion Nick Willis (3:43.33) rounding out the top there.
Kenyan Kiprop was forced to settle for fourth after clocking 3:43.67.
And the in-form Ben Offereins was also impressive in the men's 400m final, proving too good for American Olympic gold medalist David Neville.
Offereins, 23 from Western Australia, won in a time of 45.73 seconds ahead of second-placed Victorian Sean Wroe (46.18) who was also faster than Neville (46.37) in third.
Meanwhile, Olympic and world champion pole-vaulter Steven Hooker produced another dominant performance at the IAAF-sanctioned meet.
Hooker swept aside his opposition in the men's final with a jump of 5.65 metres - a whopping 50 centimetres better than Queenslander Matt Boyd and Victorian Blake Lucas who were tied for second on 5.15m.
Olympic silver medalist Sally McLellan took out the women's 200m final in a time of 23.59 seconds while Jody Henry (52.41) clinched the women's 400m final ahead of Tamsyn Lewis (52.64).
Kenyan superstar David Rudisha then stole the show when he clocked the fastest time ever on Australian soil in the 800m.
The 20-year-old crossed the line in 1:43.15, ahead of Ryan Gregson (1:46.04), to secure his first Commonwealth Games A-qualifying standard over the two-lap distance.
"I came to Australia expecting to run a fast time … I knew I was going to run 1:43 and that's what I did. I did what I came here to do," he said.
