Australian aerial skier Dave Morris warmed up for the Winter Olympics in Vancouver by collecting Nor-Am gold in Mont Gabriel against a strong international field.
The 25-year-old Australian landed his first quad twisting triple jump in competition and a triple twisting triple to score 242.82 points, finishing ahead of the Belarussian duo of Dimitry Dashinski on 239.56 points and Anton Kushnir with 226.38 points.
Kushnir, the World Cup leader, 'punch-fronted' his opening jump, while two more of the leading Belarussians, Alexei Grishin and Timofei Slivets, also missed landings.
Morris first performed the elite level quad jump in training last weekend at the same Canadian mountain. It is a big personal best for the inexperienced Australian as he approaches his first Olympic Games.
Lydia Lassila scored 169.19 points in the women's event to finish in second place behind Belarussian Assoli Slivets (172.47), while Liz Gardner took the bronze medal with 159.65 points.
Jacqui Cooper missed both landings to place ninth with 125.69.
A second Nor-Am event will be held in Mont Gabriel on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Joh Shaw missed a place in the finals of the Sudelfeld parallel giant slalom World Cup by just 0.37 of a second.
Shaw qualified in 18th position in a total time of one minute 27.45 seconds, 3.75 seconds behind fastest qualifier Julia Dujmovits of Austria.
Shaw's 18th place overall, in the final race before the Olympics, was her best result since returning from injury in early January.
"My first run was really bad," Shaw said. "I made so many mistakes."
"But I had a really good second run. I feel I'm back to my riding again, and feeling good leading into the Games."
Amelie Kober of Germany won her way through the 16-woman finals rounds to claim the gold ahead of Dutch rider Nicolien Sauerbreij. Marion Kreiner of Austria collected the bronze.
