The Kookaburras have won their first World Cup in 24 years, defeating Germany 2-1 in the final in New Delhi on Saturday night.
It was the third straight time the two sides had met in a World Cup decider, but this time Australia was able to secure the victory that put it back to the top of the rankings.
Young Tasmanian Eddie Ockenden opened the scoring in just the sixth minute with a superb piece of ball control to fire past the German keeper.
The Kookaburras pushed on for another goal, but couldn't find the back of the net again in the first half.
Australia failed to convert an early penalty corner in the second half and the Germans made their opponents pay as Moritz Furste fired home from a penalty corner to level the scores.
Germany looked the more likely to score again, but with 10 minutes remaining Luke Doerner scored his eighth goal of the tournament to put the Kookaburras back in front.
And from there they held on to win only their second World Cup title.
