Borodulina misses out

02/27/2010 08:23:29 AM

Australian speed skater Tatiana Borodulina has missed out on a spot in the final of the women's 100m short track event at the Pacific Coliseum.

The Russian-born Borodulina snuck into the semi-final following a photo-finish in the quarters, but was found herself up against some stiff opposition in the form of Chinese skater Zhou Yang who smashed the world record with a time of 1:29.049.

Korean skater Seung-Hi Park finished in second with the Australian relegated to third, just missing out on a spot in the A-final and a chance at a medal.

The speed of the semi-final was so hot that Borodulina managed an Olympic record, but it wasn’t enough to secure a spot in the main race.

"I gave it my best, " Borodulina said after the race. "I was very close to making the final. I tried so hard, I gave it all I could."

"The 1000 has never been my strongest race but to go so close to making an Olympic final is pretty good," Borodulina said. "Although I am disappointed I did not make it."
