Warriors keep focus

Warriors keep focus

08/31/2010 04:23:28 AM

The Warriors will field and unchanged lineup for the club's final match of the regular season against the Eels at Parramatta Stadium on Saturday night.

One minor change sees Joel Moon named as 18th man. Moon was named to start last week, but coach Ivan Cleary opted to hand Jerome Ropati the starting centre spot in a late change.

Last Friday's 36-4 victory over Brisbane gave the Warriors a seven win-five loss home record in 2010, and sealed a spot in the finals. In doing so, the club became one of only five clubs to make the playoffs three or more times in the last five seasons, the others being St George Illawarra, Manly, Brisbane and Melbourne.

Cleary said the Warriors' focus was on what they could control, and that involved getting the two points, their finishing position and likely first-round finals opponents were not in the equation.

"We can influence only one thing and that's the result against the Eels," he said.

"Everything else will take care of itself. We need to fix our focus on Parramatta and do everything we can to ensure our performance is at the level it will need to be.

"Some people have said the Eels have nothing to play for now they're out of the finals picture. That's certainly not true. They'll be high on emotion as they farewell Nathan Cayless. That'll be a big motivation for them.

"We came up with a really strong effort against Brisbane, which was the result of the way we prepared for that game. We know we'll have to match that all over again to be in the hunt against a side that has so many talented players."

When the two sides last met at Mount Smart Stadium on July 4, the Warriors produced a six-tries-to-one 35-6 victory in the middle of a five-match winning streak.
