Western Australia have bowled Queensland out for 251 midway through the first session on the second day of their Sheffield Shield showdown at the Gabba.

Nathan Coulter-Nile was the chief destroyer in the morning session, taking two of the three wickets on offer to finish with figures of 4-66.

Former Bull Nathan Rimmington (3-63) took the final scalp to kick off his homecoming in style.

Chris Lynn was by far the best of the Queensland blades, finishing with 80 in a crisp knock that included eight boundaries and two sixes.

Michael Neser (38) was another strong contributor in a 51-run partnership with Lynn, helping to lift the Queensland rate after they had been crawling with only 105 runs on the board after the first two sessions of the match.

Wade Townsend was overly cautious, occupying an end to score just 54 runs off 190 deliveries in 249 minutes.

Resuming at 7-212, Cameron Boyce started the day in positive fashion, hitting a well-struck boundary in the first over.

But his knock came to an end five overs in, playing the wrong line to Coulter-Nile and edging thickly to first slip.

Bulls No.10 Alister McDermott put his head down for five more runs, but after taking a vicious cutter from Coulter-Nile right between the legs, he was out in the same over, waving his bat and nicking behind to Ronchi.

Luke Feldman's entry spurred Lynn straight into action, but after bumping Rimmington into the stands for six and chipping a two, he fell to the third ball of the over playing over the top of a low-bouncing inswinger.

An outright victory for the top-of-the-table Bulls will guarantee them hosting rights of the Sheffield Shield final, while second-placed Western Australia have the chance to cut Queensland's lead on the table to four points.
