Tigers' solid start

Tigers' solid start

02/09/2010 02:05:31 AM

Tasmania has made a solid start to its pursuit of first-innings points after bowling Queensland out for 326 on the second morning of the Sheffield Shield game at Bellerive Oval.

At lunch the Tigers had reached 0-38 from 11 overs, with Rhett Lockyear unbeaten on 22 and Ed Cowan 14 not out.

Earlier, the Bulls added 82 to their overnight score before the hosts managed to wrap up the tail, with Chris Simpson scoring 33 before he was the last man out, leaving No.11 Luke Feldman unbeaten on 31 having faced only 25 deliveries.

Fast bowler Adam Griffith has made the ideal return from injury, capturing 5-85 from 30 overs, with Adam Maher (2-47 from 20) and Brendan Drew (2-76 from 26) chiming in with two wickets each and Tim MacDonald (1-86 from 25) claiming the other wicket.

Griffith gained the initial breakthrough on Tuesday morning when he accepted a return catch from Ben Cutting (eight) but the visitors frustrated Tasmania with the final two wickets adding 70 runs in a fine rearguard.

Chris Swan helped Simpson add 34 for the ninth wicket before Griffith completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing Swan for 12 but with Feldman hitting out Queensland went beyond 300 before Drew knocked Simpson over.

Wade Townsend and wicketkeeper Chris Hartley had rescued Queensland from a disastrous 4-39 on Monday, the pair adding 172 for the fifth wicket as Townsend grabbed his second first-class century with 121 and Hartley added 68.
