Sportal Poker League Event 3 – Freeroll

04/06/2010 01:33:13 PM

Sportal Poker League event 3 a $100 freeroll kicked off on Easter Sunday at 7.30pm AEST. The tournament attracted 73 players who were determined to take out the title and get some valuable league points for the end of season finale. We lost 10 players within the first blind level but play then settled into its expected rhythm. With 73 players the payout was top 15 with the winner taking home glory and $25.50. After running short of the cash at the Joe Hachem Deep Stack Main Event during the day I was determined to take this tournament down. Well my plan didn’t get off to the best start with my stack dwindling down to just above 1000 in chips. After half an hour of play local Bundoora player Chris Horman was leading the field with just over 9k.

In one big hand early we saw last weeks winner Mrkorea81 involved in a hand with Northerly, Mrkorea81 made it 115 to go with Northerly popping it to 400 with Mrkorea81 calling. The flop came 9hJh9s, Mrkorea81 check called a 435 bet from Northerly with the Ah falling on the turn. Again Mrkorea81 check called the all in from Northerly of 670 to be proven right with holdings of JdQc against Northerlys 8c10c with the Js filling Mrkorea81 up on the river.

On another table we saw SJD NiNE 10 slow play AA and lose. In the very next hand he shoved his stack to a raise with another player calling. SJD NiNE 10 flipped QhJh against his opponents 2s2h and getting there on a KdQs9d7h10d board and doubling back up.

One of the first hands of the final table was between the short stack and the big stack. Demac0025 did the cheeky limp with KK early and wait for a raise unfortunately for Demac0025 the small blind Martin_TBV had AA and stuck in a raise. Demac0025 re-raise and Martin_TBV shoved and found a call, the board blanked out and Martin_TBV doubled through the big stack.

With a commanding chip lead when 5 handed it was all one way traffic for Melbourne rounder and accomplished tournament specialist Anthony 'Demac0025' Demarco who finished off the tournament with speed and efficiency. He pockets $25.50 for first place and the 146 SPL points. If you’re wondering yours truly came 15th.
See you next week for event 4 $5.50 buy in event. Stay tuned to the forum and poker page for all your advice and news.
