Victoria and South Australia head into Saturday's Ryobi Cup clash at the MCG with contrasting motivations.
Following their one-wicket loss last week in Adelaide, the Bushrangers cannot make the final regardless of this weekend's result so they have picked a squad with an eye to the future.
But there's plenty riding on the match for the Redbacks, who must win in order to reclaim top spot on the Ryobi Cup table and earn the right to host Saturday week's final against the Tigers.
Tasmania are sitting pretty in pole position - at least for the moment - after their eight-wicket defeat of Queensland on Wednesday took them to 26 points but South Australia only to have to win to finish with 27 points and hosting rights.
The visitors have made only one change to the team that fell over the line last week in Adelaide and the inclusion is a pretty handy one with spinner Nathan Lyon recalled following a thigh strain that has sidelined him since the Australia Day Test win over India.
Lyon returns in place of youngster Chadd Sayers, who carried the drinks in that game last week but impressed with seven wickets in the Shield clash between the teams earlier this week, including 5-57 in the second innings.
Victoria meanwhile have made two changes to their squad with Test quick Peter Siddle, who spearheaded them to outright victory in the Shield game this week, to be rested and Jayde Herrick not considered because of an ankle injury.
Scott Boland returns after carrying the drinks in the Shield game and he could be joined in the attack by Camberwell Magpies fast bowler Andrew Fekete, who claimed three wickets as Victoria's Futures League team had an outright win over Western Australia this week in Perth.
"Andrew Fekete has bowled very well in Premier Cricket this year and has impressed in the Futures League," said Bushrangers one-day coach Simon Helmot.
"While our performances in the short form of the game haven't met our own expectations this year, we've still seen seven of our players go on to represent Australia in T20 or one-day cricket over the past 12 months and that's a positive."
While Victoria will relish the chance to play spoilers on Saturday, South Australia will be desperate to claim the win to give them a shot at winning their first interstate one-day trophy since 1986-87 at home.
