Ozil bound for EPL?

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is poised to make a 12-million-pound ($A20.5 million) offer for Mesut Ozil - but Manchester United appears to be the frontrunner to sign the Germany midfielder.

Redknapp, who has been quiet in the transfer market so far, recently spoke of his desire to add two or three 'real quality players' to the Spurs in a bid to build on last season's achievements.

The Spurs unexpectedly broke into the Premier League's top four last season to qualify for the Champions' League.

Reports on Tuesday suggest that Redknapp was preparing to make a bid for Ozil following his strong showing at the World Cup in South Africa.

However, Manchester United is also expected to make a play for the 21-year-old, with Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly keen to bolster his midfield's scoring capabilities.

Ozil scored 11 goals and made 33 assists in 53 games last season for club and country.

He is contracted for another 12 months to Bundesliga side Werder Bremen, which initially priced its coveted star out of the market at 25 million pounds.

However, the prospect of losing Ozil on a free transfer as early as January has softened its approach, and the midfielder now appears certain to play in the Premier League next season.
