The Queensland and Penrith NRL clash in Townsville on Saturday night has been brought forward two hours because of Cyclone Ului.
The kick-off is now 6.30pm Queensland time.
The decision was made after discussions between the NRL, local authorities, the two competing clubs and match broadcaster Fox Sports.
"We have been advised that the cyclone in the region is not expected to directly impact on the match but it is in the best interests of all involved to play the game as early as possible before the worst of the conditions occur," NRL chief operations officer Graham Annesley said.
"We will continue to monitor the situation with authorities to ensure all safety precautions are taken for players, officials and fans."
Cowboys director Peter Parr said the decision was in the best interests of both teams, events staff and the general public.
"We would like to thank Penrith, the NRL, Stadium Management and particularly Fox Sports for the understanding and care they have shown in this situation."
The Toyota Cup match between the Cowboys and Panthers will now kick-off at 4.30pm.
Gates open at 4.15pm.
