Nik Mrdja is not concerned by any fuss that may have arisen out of his decision to join A-League powerhouse club Melbourne Victory right on the eve of the finals.
Mrdja, who made his debut for the reigning champions off the bench during last Friday night's win over North Queensland, will only play for the Victory for the rest of this season and in their upcoming Asian Champions League campaign before switching back to the Mariners for the start of next season.
The 31-year-old was signed outside the transfer window but under the A-League's injury replacement rule - as a replacement for long-term injured Melbourne star Billy Celeski - with the signing going through just hours before last Friday's deadline.
However Mrdja, who has scored 12 goals in 42 games for the Mariners and before that 25 goals in 73 games for Perth Glory in the NSL, is not worried by any concern others may have about the legality of his move.
"At the end of the day it (his move) was all legal and both parties were very happy that it went through and I am happy about it," he said on Tuesday.
"If you look at it, anyone was capable of doing it (using the injury replacement rule to sign an experienced player from a rival club) but it just fell right for the Victory."
The rule which allowed Mrdja to join the Victory - and which now looks set to be reviewed by FFA - is likely to be forever known as the 'Nik Mrdja rule' but that does not worry the big striker one bit.
"That is a positive too," he said.
"My name is always going to be there as the guy who did it but look if they change the rule, then they change it."
The 31-year-old is determined to make the most of his short stay with the champions and play a major role not only in helping the club win back-to-back championships but also in their upcoming ACL campaign.
"For me to be able to keep ticking over (during the off-season by playing in the ACL) after such a long time out (with injury) and to come to a team that is top of the ladder and competing for the championship is great."
Mrdja's arrival could not have come at a better time for Melbourne, which only needs a draw against second-placed Sydney FC on Sunday in Sydney to finish the season on top of the ladder and clinch the premiership, given it is without a host of star players due to injury and suspension including Archie Thompson, skipper Kevin Muscat and star defender Matthew Kemp, who will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.
And Mrdja, who made his Victory debut just hours after meeting his new team-mates, is determined to do all he can to help the Victory during his short time at the club.
"Coming here at the business end of the season is a positive and hopefully I can help the boys out to come up with the result they need this weekend and then after that in the finals series," he said.
"It's always a good thing to play in front of big crowds, like Melbourne gets, and hopefully the crowd will accept me and like me in the short time I am here because I will be trying to do my best."
