Promising Melbourne backman Cale Morton could miss a large chunk of the season after scans revealed a tear in the posterior cruciate ligament of his left knee.
Morton injured the knee in a collision during the fourth quarter of the NAB Challenge match against Essendon on Saturday
Melbourne medical staff have yet to make a final decision on the course of rehabilitation and the length of time Morton is expected to be out.
It is a big blow for the young Demons and particularly Morton who played all but one game in 2009 and averaged 22 disposals a game to finish in the top-ten of the club's best and fairest.
